Tache Home

Come let us build together with the children

Our Story – Told by Ms. Elizabeth Malama Chitundu

Since 1999, Tache Home now located in Kafue district in the Republic of Zambia, has been a Christian children's home dedicated to providing orphans and vulnerable children with a place to belong. The name "Tache" comes from a Hebrew word found in Exodus 26:6, which refers to the fastener that joined two sets of temple curtains together. This concept perfectly symbolizes the home's mission: to connect children with the support they need to lead fulfilling lives. The home's purpose is to offer a complete, nurturing environment by providing essential needs like shelter, food, clothing, education, and health care. Beyond these basics, Tache Home fosters an atmosphere where children can develop social skills, positive attitudes, and the knowledge necessary to realize God's plan for their lives.

Over the years, Tache Home has grown from caring for a single child to helping sixteen children, all of whom have since become well-established members of society. Funding for the home has been sustained through a combination of generous donations from well-wishers and various fundraising efforts, including bead making, crafts, farming, food processing, and art.

Tache Home is also proud to have spearheaded the establishment of Likasa Boys Secondary School for the education of orphans and vulnerable children. Likasa is a Chewa word that means covenant with God. Founded in 2011 with support from the American government, the school has since transitioned to a government school, expanding its impact and reach. This initiative reflects Tache Home’s commitment to empowering vulnerable communities even through education and partnership. The most recent initiative under the Tache Home umbrella is the Gomolah Farm Youth Center, which extends the organization's mission to support and guide local youth.

Gomolah Farm Youth Center

The Gomolah Farm Youth Center is a new and urgent ministry born out of the long-standing mission of Tache Home. The vision for Gomolah Farm Youth Center was born out of a period of significant personal struggle. The journey began on a remote piece of land in Kafue (Gomolah Farm) which was initially used to raise funds for Tache Home's daily operations. For two years, Tache Home founder Elizabeth Chitundu faced immense challenges while trying to manage a small livestock farm on this remote piece of land. Despite repeated setbacks, including the loss of animals to theft and predators, she persevered, driven by a deep sense of faith and a prophetic word from her pastor that the land was a "place of ministry."

Despite repeated setbacks, including the loss of animals to theft and predators, she persevered, driven by a deep sense of faith and a prophetic word from her pastor that the land was a "place of ministry."

The true purpose of the farm became clear following a conversation with a mechanic at a local graveyard, where she was struck by the overwhelming number of young people's tombstones – victims of substance abuse and poor lifestyles. In that moment, she received a divine call to transform Gomolah Farm into a youth center. Gomolah Youth Center was birthed – named from the Hebrew word meaning "to recompense or repay" from Jeremiah 51:56. It is a place of restoration, renewal, and reward. This center is envisioned as a sanctuary where young people can find salvation through Jesus Christ, receive counseling, guidance and deliverance, and be guided back to their God-given purpose. This initiative is seen as an urgent and necessary response to the current crisis affecting youths in Zambia.

Vision: To transform the lives of vulnerable youth by equipping them with godly values, practical skills, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Key Activities of Gomolah Youth Center

The center will be an intensively faith-based initiative focused on the spiritual and moral rehabilitation of young people. The core mission will not just be to provide a safe space, but to actively evangelize and minister to youth who are facing challenges like substance abuse and a lack of purpose. Key activities of the center will include:

• Spiritual and Religious Guidance: The center will be a place for preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. The primary goal will be to lead young people to salvation and help them develop a personal relationship with God.

• Counseling and Deliverance: The center will address not only the practical challenges but also the spiritual root causes of personal struggles of the youths. Counseling will be a combination of biblical guidance and support for overcoming addictions and destructive behaviors

• Purpose and Calling: The center will aim to help young people realign themselves to their God-given callings, and as such will include programs focused on personal development, mentorship, and discovering one's life purpose through a spiritual lens.

• Practical Skills: The center will also empower the youth with practical skills in crop production, animal husbandry, tailoring, food processing, carpentry, computer literacy and art.

The center will serve the youth in the aforementioned activities for a period of 3 to 6 months per group/intake.

Support Needed

We seek support to build a multipurpose hall, administration block, hostels, basic staff housing initially comprising 3 houses (3 bedroomed) and funding to sink a borehole (the farm currently only has a well). Further support is required for equipment, training partners and prayer to launch the center. Let’s build a generation of godly, skilled young men who become fathers of our land.

Come let us build together with the children

Our Story – Told by Ms. Elizabeth Malama Chitundu

I realized my calling at the age of five. I would collect animals in their infancy, kittens, puppies, chicks, and keep them in my bedroom. Whenever I saw a baby, I never wanted to let go. As the youngest of nine children, I always begged my parents to bring a baby into the house. I adored my nieces and nephews when they were babies and always looked forward to visiting them in their homes.

I attended boarding school from Grade 5 to Grade 7 (1975–1977) and later went to a secondary boarding school from 1978 to 1982. In 1984, I traveled to Australia for tertiary education, where I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science and Technology in 1987.

In 1988, I returned to Zambia and began working under the Ministry of Health in the Department of Food and Drugs Control Laboratory, in the chemistry section. In 1991, I went back to Australia to pursue a Master’s Degree by research at the University of Western Sydney. My supervisor encouraged me to convert it into a doctorate by adding one more year of research, but I declined. I felt the call of God growing stronger within me, and I sensed the time was near to begin the work I was born to do. I returned to Zambia and continued working for the same institution.

In 1999, the Lord brought to me my first child at the age of seven. He is now a freelance artist. That same year, I voluntarily resigned from my job as I felt an urgency in my spirit to begin the work of God, caring for orphans and vulnerable children. During this time, I also traveled to Sydney, Australia, where I reunited with dear friends from university. One of them encouraged me to remain and work with a food processing plant, but even after only a month, my heart yearned to return home to Zambia to begin the mission God had placed on my heart.

Before I left for Australia, I had received a word from Proverbs 10:22: “The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.” While in Australia, every house I entered received me warmly. Even strangers on trains showed overwhelming kindness. I was given both material and monetary gifts. It was an unusual experience, but I knew it was God showing me that as I embarked on this journey, He would raise people to support His work.

The more time passed in Sydney, the more strongly I felt I needed to return to Lusaka. When I arrived, I received news that the car I had bought just before leaving had caught fire. Though disappointed, I remembered God’s word and gave thanks. I asked my brother to take the car to a garage, and they sold it, amazingly, four times more than the price I had initially paid for.

It was then that the Lord spoke: “Begin My work.”

In October 1999, I found a house for rent. Using the money from the sale of the car, I bought beds and bedding. A committee and board of directors were soon formed. Children began coming, some through the Department of Social Welfare, others through word of mouth, as the Spirit of God led. Some children came on a transit basis, while others were placed permanently. At one point, there were as many as 22 children in the home. Out of all those, 16 were raised here.

The Lord instructed me never to call it an orphanage, but a Home, so the children could feel loved, accepted, and truly at home. And so, Tache Home was born. Established in 1999, it has provided shelter, food, clothing, education, healthcare, and a loving environment where children can grow spiritually, emotionally, and intellectually—developing the social skills and knowledge to discover God’s purpose for their lives.

All the children raised in Tache Home, except for the three who are still in school, have successfully gone through university and are now working across Zambia.

Along the journey, the American government partnered with us to build a school, Likasa Boys Secondary School, whose name means “Covenant with God.” Though originally intended for orphans and vulnerable children across the country, the school is now run by the Zambian government and continues to serve children on merit.

God has indeed been faithful. Tache Home is a testament to what can happen when one obeys the call of God.
